The Teaching of Reading

Children have access to a wide range of authors and publishers in school.  Our reading books are gouped by difficulty into a coloured book banded system.  Within each band, there is still a small range of challenge.  Children in KS1 take these reading books home and are strongly encouraged to read at home regularly.  Children also have access to books within the classroom and our school library.  All classes make use of Winsford Library to enhance our school book provision.

All children  experience a weekly guided reading session with their class teacher. In addition they are also given many  more reading opportunities accross the curriculum, including comprehension skills within literacy lessons.  Individuals may read on a one to one basis regularly with a range of adults in school.
