Modern Foreign languages
It has been said that people who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask and listening skills.
Language teaching at Chapelford should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries and to enable them to express themselves in other languages.
With this in mind, our children are given the opportunity to learn French through a variety of fun and engaging activities ensuring coverage against the four key skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading. Learning a different language isn't simply learning lists of vocabulary but engaging with the similarities and differences to English, spotting patterns and developing a conversational manner. Language learning is a window into different countries and their cultures of which our children may not normally have the chance to appreciate and at the same time foster and develop their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world around them.
