Physical Education is crucial to developing well-rounded, resilient children who strive to achieve the very best they can.

Here at Chapelford Village Primary School, we are dedicated to raising the profile and standards of PE across the school. We are committed to providing our children with an enriched curriculum which is based on: gymnastics, dance, net and wall games, invasion games, striking and fielding and athletics. The fundamental skills of PE are delivered through the use of the REAL PE scheme and skills are progressive throughout the children’s learning journey.

Every pupil has the opportunity to participate in a fun, challenging and rewarding learning environment where pupils are encouraged to express themselves through physical activity. All children have at least 2 hours of PE a week. We are fortunate enough to have the use of outdoor and indoor space to conduct high quality PE lessons utilising a vast range of sporting equipment.

Children are challenged with progressively higher tasks as their age, strength and skills increase.  They are encouraged to plan and perform skills safely, showing increasing control and accuracy.  They are taught how to get out and put away any equipment they use and the necessary safety precautions during PE lessons as they move through the year groups.

School Games Award


I am delighted to announce, following all the hard work we have put into PE and sport over the last few years, we have achieved the Gold School Games Mark for 2018.

The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels.

This is a reward that recognises PE in school – the lessons we teach, the clubs we run, the coaches we bring in, the links we have with sports clubs and all the competitions we take part in.

Healthy Schools' Week 2019

Year 1

During Healthy Schools’ Week, Year 1 tasted a variety of fruits and then designed, created and evaluated their own healthy fruit kebabs. They completed a guided reading session finding out about healthy eating and the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. They also weighed different fruits using non-standard units of measure and determined which fruit was the heaviest and which was the lightest.

Year 2

 During Healthy Schools’ Week, Year 2 discussed the use of medicines and why it is important to not take medicine unnecessarily. They also thought about how to have a positive and healthy mind. They investigated the sugar content of a variety of different drinks and food products.

Year 3

During Healthy Schools’ Week, Year three designed and made healthy fruit salads. They completed a mathematical challenge ‘Knights in Training’ involving the use of prepositional language. They also produced mindfulness top tips and hints for others. Year three designed leaflets for Reception children explaining how to stay safe in the sun.

Year 4
During Healthy Schools’ Week, Year 4 investigated the sugar content in a variety of foods and linked it to their maths work by weighing the amount of sugar in grams. They then investigated how long it would take to burn off the amounts of sugar. Year 4 looked at different parts of the body and their functions. They looked at the importance of remaining hydrated and how becoming dehydrated can impact on our bodies.
