Year 2

Hi Year 2,

How are you? We hope you and all your families are doing well. We can imagine the sun has brightened up your days and we hope you are enjoying time in the sun but also remembering to stay safe. The sun is fantastic for our mental health and you should enjoy lots of activities outside. If you’re doing physical activities don’t forget to take regular breaks and drink plenty of water. Your teachers have definitely been enjoying their time in the sunshine too.

You have all been working really hard again this week. We have seen more children access Bug Club and Times Table Rock Stars which is great! We have been amazed by your Disgusting sandwich stories – we loved reading about some of your hungry characters! They have been making us feel very hungry although we don’t fancy a disgusting sandwich. Please keep us updated with your learning at home and send us pictures and messages. We are here to help and support you and seeing and hearing of your wonderful achievements makes us so happy and proud.

Miss Webb has been celebrating her dads birthday this week. She bought him some lovely presents which he absolutely loved! Whilst celebrating she has been sitting outside in the sun having delicious BBQ’s. Miss Webb is looking forward to celebrating her birthday this week (2nd July) she is hoping the sun will stay shining so she can enjoy lots of festivities outside. Miss Stebbings has been busy. She rescued an animal this week. Very random we know! A poor dog had escaped from his garden and was running up and down a main road when Miss Stebbings was driving past. She stopped and managed to find the owner of the lost dog – the owners were very thankful! Miss Stebbings wanted to keep the dog she was very cute. Miss Barber has been doing lots of sporty activities in her garden for Sports Week. You might have watched her on the Facebook page. She has enjoyed being out the sun going on long walks with her family and Rufus the dog. She has used her PSHE knowledge on sun safety to make sure she has stayed safe whilst out in the sun.

Your new home learning is now available online. This week your English learning links to you Geography and History learning. You are going to be telling us all about a seaside town. We can’t wait to read your non-chronological reports. Within your English learning there are some spelling rule starters. Can you think of any inventive ways to remember learnt spelling rules? You could send your ideas to your teacher so they can share with other children. Don’t forget we love to see your amazing work you complete at home.

As always look out for any updates we put on for you on the school webpage. Your weekly home learning should include:

  •          Reading each day. This could be a book from home, a magazine or something on Bug Club.
  •          Practising your times tables every day on Times Table Rockstars, Hit the Button or with a member of your family. If you are now confident with your 2, 5 and 10 times table then let us know and we can move you on.
  •          A daily English task including a sticky grammar activity
  •          A daily Maths task including a sticky maths activity
  •          Daily spelling practise and task card
  •          An activity from the Wider Curriculum Task sheet each day

Every week, we challenge the whole of Year 2 to see how often they could go on Times Table Rock Stars again last week and this week’s results are now in. We are so pleased that children are going on the app and we know there are some children who are practising their times tables using other ways. The results below show the percentage of children from each class who have been on TTRS over the last 14 days.

Class 7

Class 8

Class 9

41%

30%

50%

 CLASS 9 ARE THE WINNERS!

Congratulations to all the children in Class 9 who helped their class to win (again) this week. The scores were not as close this week. Come on class 7 and 8 you can do better than that! Can Class 7 or 8 beat class 9 next week? Miss Stebbings and Miss Webb hope so! Well done to each child across the year group who contributed to their class total. Your teachers really want to see those scores over 50%. We are so close now; can we have half of the entire year group on TTRS this week?

We hope you have another good week spending time with your family, completing your home learning and doing other fun activities. Let us know what you get up to!

Best wishes to you and your families, stay safe, stay well and enjoy the sunshine!

Your Year 2 teachers
