Chapelford Village Primary School have been celebrating the coronation of King Charles this week through a variety of learning opportunities and events. Each class has had the opportunity to read a variety of high quality texts this week.

Our reception children have been learning about what happens at a coronation and the important people who are involved in the celebrations. They discussed all about the life of King Charles and how he helps people. Year 1 have had chance to further develop their computing skills and designed a new crown and stamp for King Charles! In singing assembly they learnt a song called 'Our Coronation Song' which they performed and is posted on our Facebook page!

Year 2 have been looking at recognising the value of notes and coins. They linked their knowledge of addition and subtraction to a problem about a gift shop for the King's Coronation. They had to work out how much a range of souvenirs cost and work out the change they needed! They have also worked to solve a problem to help King Charles name the properties of 2D shapes. Then they completed a picture of his crown and made sure the jewels were symmetrical.

Year 3 spent time finding out about the life of King Charles, from when he was born to the present day. They used their historical skills to order the events chronologically. They enjoyed looking at the pictures and discussing how His Majesty had changed since 1948. Year 4 have loved learning about King Charles III Coronation. Today the children thought about the skills needed to be King of England and created their own application to be a king or queen!

Year 5 have used their knowledge of clay techniques to make a crown to celebrate the King's Coronation. One of the techniques they focused on in slip and score. Here they safely used the carving tools to score the clay and piece it together to make a crown. The finished pieces looked incredible!

After learning about the coronation of King Charles, the children at Chapelford Village Primary School enjoyed a tea party with cake and juice on Friday. The atmosphere was joyous as the children listened to music, and shared their learning from the week. It was a chance for the children to relax and have fun after their educational activities, and they were very excited to indulge in the tasty treats on offer.

If you are choosing to celebrate the coronation this weekend we hope you have a wonderful time and hope the children can share their learning from this week with you! Check out our Facebook page for more photographs of our learning!
