The trip to Walton Gardens in Warrington was an exciting adventure for the Year 1 school children. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the visit to the zoo, where the children had the opportunity to see a variety of animals up close. From peacocks to donkeys, the children's faces lit up with awe and wonder as they learned about different species and their habitats. It was a useful opportunity to re-visit our Science learning about the classification of animals and whether they were a carnivore, omnivore or a herbivore.

After the zoo visit, the children engaged in a creative activity inspired by the renowned artist Andy Goldsworthy. They collected fallen leaves, twigs, and flowers from the gardens and created beautiful nature art using these materials. The children's imaginations ran wild as they designed intricate patterns and structures, incorporating vibrant colors and textures. It was a hands-on experience that encouraged them to explore their artistic talents while fostering a connection with the environment.

To further enhance their Science learning about plants, the children embarked on a delightful woodland walk. They discovered various types of plants and learned about their distinctive features. They also had the opportunity to do bark rubbings using crayons. The children pressed their crayons onto the tree barks, revealing the intricate patterns and textures hidden within. Next week the children will be sitting their phonics screen - we continued with our hard work and had a phonics session in the forest!

The children had a lovely lunch surrounded by the scenery of Walton Gardens. We shared stories and laughter while eating their packed lunches and enjoying the sunshine. The behaviour was incredible and all children were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Mrs Cleary said how proud she was of all the children.
