Empowering Our Children: A Week of Mini First Aid Training

This week, every class from EYFS to Year 6 took part in Mini First Aid sessions delivered by the fantastic team at Mini First Aid Warrington. These sessions are progressive, revisiting what children have learned in previous years while introducing new, age-appropriate skills.
From EYFS and Key Stage 1, children learned how to identify minor injuries, use cold compresses, and understand when to ask for help and even practised making calls to the emergency services. In Key Stage 2, pupils explored more complex scenarios, including CPR, choking, burns, breaks and bleeding. Each session was practical, interactive and lots of fun, with games and activities to reinforce learning.
We truly believe it’s our responsibility to equip children with skills that could one day save their own lives — or the lives of others. First aid isn’t just about putting on a plaster; it’s about staying calm, assessing a situation and making well-informed, timely decisions.
It’s been wonderful to hear from families that their children have been practicing their new skills at home. One parent said, “My child confidently explained how to help someone who is choking and even demonstrated it to us!” Moments like this show how meaningful these sessions are beyond the classroom.
Research shows that children trained in first aid gain confidence, knowledge, and independence in emergency situations. They learn not only what to do but also how to stay calm and take responsibility, which are invaluable life skills.
A huge thank you to Mini First Aid Warrington for coming in and delivering such engaging and inspiring sessions! Your passion and expertise made the week both fun and incredibly educational.
Miss Barber, our Safety Curriculum Lead, said, “Empowering our children with first aid skills is an investment in their safety and well-being. We are proud to give them the knowledge and confidence to act in an emergency.”
Well done to all our children for taking part and embracing these important lessons — we can’t wait to continue building their first aid skills in the years to come!
