We were proud to support the NSPCC and the incredible work they do by celebrating Number Day with a whole-school focus on maths, from EYFS right through to Year 6. The aim of the day was simple: to show children that maths can be fun, exciting, and meaningful, while also helping to raise awareness of an important cause.

The day began with a lively whole-school assembly led by our Maths Team, where children learned about Number Day, why we were supporting the NSPCC and what activities lay ahead. There was a real buzz around school as pupils prepared for a day full of problem-solving, teamwork and mathematical thinking.

Across the school, children took part in a wide range of engaging activities linked to their age and stage of learning. Our youngest pupils in EYFS and Year 1 enjoyed exploring numbers, shapes, and counting through games, number hunts and practical activities inspired by Numberblocks. As the children moved through the school, the challenges grew in complexity, with Years 2 and 3 tackling puzzles, coding-style activities, number bonds and problem-solving tasks. Older pupils in Years 4, 5, and 6 applied their mathematical skills to real-life problems, took on magic square challenges and worked collaboratively in active outdoor maths games that combined physical movement with careful reasoning.

Children in Years 2 to 6 also took part in a whole-school Times Tables Rockstars NSPCC Rocks Challenge, competing to answer as many multiplication and division questions as possible. The excitement of watching the leaderboards and cheering each other on made fluency practice great fun. Check out our Facebook page to see who our winning classes and individual champions were!

Mrs Hackett, our Maths Lead, shared her thoughts on the day:

“Number Day was a brilliant opportunity for our children to experience maths in a fun, inclusive and practical way. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and confidence across the school, while also supporting the NSPCC and the vital work they do.”

The children themselves summed the day up perfectly, with one pupil telling us,

“Maths is so much fun!”

Number Day was a fantastic celebration of learning, teamwork, and enjoyment, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm shown by all of our pupils.
