This week the whole school has been celebrating Science Week with great enthusiasm! As part of the celebrations, the school invited children to dress up as a career linked to Science. The students arrived dressed up as gardeners, doctors, nurses and other health professionals. Staff also got involved! The celebrations not only highlighted the importance of Science, but also inspired the children to consider a wide variety of professions that involve Science.

As part of the school's efforts to promote environmental awareness, a visitor from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) visited Chapelford Village Primary School. She spoke to the children about the different animals and wildlife that she has seen within the local area and the importance of looking after wildlife. The children were particularly interested to learn about different insects, their habitats and efforts made to protect them.

Children in Year 1 took part in a live lesson created by the National Farmers Union (NFU) and were excited to learn about how tractors are connected to space whilst re-visiting our topic of materials. We took part in a live quiz and the children submitted some excellent questions to the hosts! Year 2 have been investigating the dangers of deforestation and looked at different products that contained palm oil. The children were so engaged that they even wrote their own pledges about how they could help with the problem of deforestation. Year 3 looked at the global issue of plastic pollution. They considered the impact this had on marine wildlife and how we can work together to stop this. They made individual pledges to say what they were going to do and will further their learning next week by writing persuasive speeches to tackle this global issue! KS2 were very lucky to have a visit from Mrs Hill who spoke to the children about her career as a Mental Health Nurse. The children asked lots of thoughtful questions and further embedded the importance of mental health as well as our physical health.

Science week was a great success and hopefully has inspired children to consider a career in Science in the future!
